Lady Gaga hasn't been in a relationship for over a year — she says she's chosen to be celibate now that she's single, and she encourages other singles to do the same.
Speaking out for a new campaign to raise awareness of HIV and AIDS, the pop diva's message to fans via the UK's Mail On Sunday is, "I can't believe I'm saying this — don't have sex."
"I'm single right now and I've chosen to be single because I don't have the time to get to know anybody. So it's OK not to have sex, it's OK to get to know people. I'm celibate, celibacy's fine."
Gaga goes on to explain that when she was at school all the 'cool' girls were rushing to have sex.
"It's not really cool any more to have sex all the time," she says. "It's cooler to be strong and independent."
"You don't have to have sex to feel good about yourself, and if you’re not ready, don't do it."
"And if you are ready," she adds, "there are free condoms given away at my concerts when you're leaving!"
